I can’t wait to settle down and read the first link. No PTSD here, but since reading TV Tropes/this site and oh, having depression, I’m a bit more aware of the … um… gross inaccuracies in media.

I’m really excited about reading them!

No, “I’m sorry that I hurt people’s feelings. That was my not intention, but I am still deeply sorry and mortified.”

Whether you (the news person or the general you) think that the person “should” be upset has no effect on their feelings. Apologies don’t cost a dime, and they do mean a lot – you care that you hurt somebody.

Of course, it’s much easier to apologize on the hurt people’s behalf. I’m surprised they didn’t apologize for making a fuss!

That first link is fantastic. I did a paper on Noel, the episode of West Wing she looks at. Now I wish I could go back and add more analysis to it. I wrote on power relationships and now I realize how much I missed.

Um, wow. What a complete lack of apology. Does he get a prize for the “missing the point” award?
I’m terrified of checking out that article. Not sure what I’ll find.

Healthy relationships are meant to be a two-way street. It doesn’t sound like selfishness at all to me. You set appropriate boundaries. You probably knew when you set them that you might not get a positive response. You actually got no response. It’s no reflection on you. You were making more than you share of effort and it was not being returned in kind. Try to make peace with that fact. I know that’s probably easier said than done. You did what you had to do. Even if you were super-healthy and had boundless energy, a one-way street relationship isn’t fair to you. I wish you healing from the emotional pain and strength in moving forward.
